I guess I always find "about me"s difficult to write because I either sound like I belong on myspace or someone who tries too hard to be profound. I'll start with the basics: My name's Ramelcy, and I'm from a little place you might have heard of known as New York City. I consider myself a Feminist and have an opinion on just about anything and everything. My tumblr is my own and no one else's so I'll post whatever quotes, rants, pictures, and random bullshit that I want. I guess it provides a bit of insight to who I am or at least I think I am? Don't hesitate to say hello. Follow and enjoy or not ?

[W]hen it comes to how the more than 40 million Latinos living in the United States self-identify, the possibilities are seemingly endless. According to a recent Pew Hispanic [Center] study, there is no consensus on what we call ourselves: 51 percent of Latinos indentify themselves with their countries of origin or that of their families, while 24 percent use the terms “Hispanic” and/or “Latino.” Others just call themselves “American.”
But the study only tells part of the story. Perhaps no other aspect of Latino culture is as personal yet political, as private yet public as what we choose to call ourselves. And we describe ourselves in a plenty of ways: umbrella terms like “Latino” or “Hispanic”; compounds like “Colombian American”; words with sociopolitical overtones, like “Chicana”; racial descriptors like “Afro-Latina”; or even a compilation of terms that we use according to the conversation. That’s a reflection not just of our ethnic diversity, but also of our family histories, immigration histories, bicultural lifestyles and politics.

Black and Latino Interviews and Discussions on Mun2

I feel like it’s about time the Latino community starts to bring more light to such issues. Our skin color, hair type, and physical attributes should not make us feel confined to one definition of “Latina” or “Black”. You do not have to be one or the other.

I Really Do Love Being Dominican.

Our music is just so passionate and all that good shit. There’s nothing like dancing bachata, merengues, and perico ripiao. Yo dope party to end my summer. Plus our food is BANGING.

This is my little tribute to Dominican culture and I’m proud to be Dominican. Oh jessss. Lol :)
