I guess I always find "about me"s difficult to write because I either sound like I belong on myspace or someone who tries too hard to be profound. I'll start with the basics: My name's Ramelcy, and I'm from a little place you might have heard of known as New York City. I consider myself a Feminist and have an opinion on just about anything and everything. My tumblr is my own and no one else's so I'll post whatever quotes, rants, pictures, and random bullshit that I want. I guess it provides a bit of insight to who I am or at least I think I am? Don't hesitate to say hello. Follow and enjoy or not ?

Video History of the Gay Rights Movement Will Break Your Heart and Fill You with Hope

“This seven minute history on the losses sustained and progress made by the gay rights movement over the last several decades is strikingly profound. From the open bigotry of the 1950’s to the current presence of gay people in popular media, the tragic deaths of young people like Jamey Rodemeyer to the overturning of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and the death of Harvey Milk to the fight for marriage equality, the piece incites a strong emotional mix of hope and heartbreak. Fair warning, you will probably cry.”

Black and Latino Interviews and Discussions on Mun2

I feel like it’s about time the Latino community starts to bring more light to such issues. Our skin color, hair type, and physical attributes should not make us feel confined to one definition of “Latina” or “Black”. You do not have to be one or the other.

The Purity Myth Documentary [trailer]

“the virginity movement” — an unholy alliance of evangelical Christians, right-wing politicians, and conservative policy intellectuals who have been exploiting irrational fears about women’s sexuality to roll back women’s rights. From dad-and-daughter “purity balls,” taxpayer-funded abstinence-only curricula, and political attacks on Planned Parenthood, to recent attempts by legislators to de-fund women’s reproductive health care and narrow the legal definition of rape, Valenti identifies a single, unifying assumption: the myth that the worth of a woman depends on what she does — or does not do — sexually. In the end, Valenti argues that the health and well-being of women are too important to be left to ideologues bent on vilifying feminism and undermining women’s autonomy.
